Update to OnePlaceMail App Authentication
As part of Microsoft’s Secure Future Initiative, Microsoft have announced their intention to begin deprecation of Exchange user identity tokens starting October 2024. This change corresponds with the introduction of the more secure Nested App Authentication (NAA) model for Outlook add-ins.
Since its inception, the OnePlaceMail app has relied upon use of Exchange user identity tokens as a basis for authentication within our app ecosystem. Microsoft have provided guidance on replacing Exchange user identity tokens with the NAA model. Unfortunately, Microsoft’s timeline for making NAA publicly available across all devices supported by the OnePlaceMail app runs closely with the timeline they have provided for turning off availability of Exchange user identity tokens. The OnePlaceMail team have been working to achieve support for NAA within the timeframe provided by Microsoft so that our users may continue using our app with minimal interruption.
Do I need to do anything?
If you are reading this article, it is likely that you have been directed here by a message in the OnePlaceMail App. This would first indicate that NAA has failed to acquire your user identity. Because NAA is a new feature of Outlook, it is only available in up-to-date versions of the Outlook product – accordingly, your version of the Outlook product may not be up to date. Depending on where you access your Outlook product from, please refer to these instructions for how to update:
- If you are using a mobile device; please access your device’s app store and apply any updates to the Outlook app if they are available
- If you are using an Outlook client for Windows; open the File menu, then select Office Account. You will see an option for Microsoft 365 and Office Updates. Apply updates as necessary.
- Please note; if you are using Outlook client for Windows on a perpetual licensing model, you may not be able to update your Outlook and you should consequently contact your IT administrator for a resolution.
- If you are using an Outlook client for Mac; open the Help menu, then select the Check for updates option. Apply updates as necessary
- If you are using Outlook on the Web or the new Outlook experience inside any desktop client; updates should be applied automatically, and no action should be required.
